MINI Edmonton is putting winter in the rear view mirror. Summer is here and you’re ready for the hot weather, so now it’s time to get your car in top shape for the season. Servicing your MINI to the correct weather conditions is key to maintaining it for years to come. We’ve outlined a few ways that you can get your MINI ready for the hot summer months.
Give It a Good Clean
After the brutal Edmonton winter wreaked havoc on our city, treat your MINI to a cleanse, literally. Dirt and grime easily cake on your car throughout those cold winter months. Unfortunately, it doesn’t just go away now that it’s warm out, and the leftover salt or grit can cause major damage to your vehicle’s paint and body It’s for your safety, too! You’d be surprised how much clearer you’ll be able to see out of your windows and rear view mirrors when you wash that layer of dirt off. Watch your MINI sparkle in the sun after a good clean and wax.
Under the Hood Maintenance
Pop your hood and let’s get to work! It’s time to check and replace, if need be, all that keeps your engine running. Your car wants to keep cool during the summer just like you, so make sure all of your internal fluids are topped up. Checking the oil, windshield washer, power-steering, coolants and transmission fluids are all vital to always keep an eye on. Let your car breathe in some of that clean summer air and and make sure to replace all of your air filters as well. Hot temperatures can do a number on your battery, especially the one in your MINI. Keep your battery clean and double-check that there’s no rust accumulating.
Change Those Tires
You’ve survived the winter thanks to your winter tires and their superior traction, but now it’s time to put your summer tires on. Summer tires have fewer treads than winter tires, which provide better handling and control thanks to its increased contact with the road. They are also made from a rubber material that helps provide heat resistance against the bare pavement. Winter tires aren’t made for the summer and are more susceptible to breaking down in the hot weather, so make sure you make the switch over.
Check Your Brakes
You gave your brakes a workout with all of that braking across a variety of unpredictable winter road conditions. Time to make sure they’re still in top shape for your summer driving. Your brakes are one of the most important features of your car, and can be the difference between an accident and safety. Book an appointment with our MINI service department and we’ll make sure your brakes are summer ready.
Roadside Emergency Kit
Hopefully you traveled those winter months with a proper emergency roadside kit in the trunk of your MINI. If not, now’s the time to get one, and if you already have one, time to switch out the winter essentials for some summer accessories. We recommend packing water, sunscreen, snacks and appropriate clothing. Of course, among the standbys you should have year-round remain items such as a first aid kit, jumper cables, multi-tool, flashlight and electronic chargers. Pay attention to what other items you think you might need and add it in to your kit, you never know when you’ll have to use it and you don’t want to be underprepared.
Our MINI Edmonton service department would be more than happy to get any of these jobs done on your MINI. Get your car summer ready so you can enjoy those long summer road trips stress-free in a well-prepared MINI.
